Joelle

Communications Coordinator

Joelle has not only been a volunteer and contract worker for Options for more than 5 years, but brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge to our team. Joelle is a local social worker supporting families in our region. Not only has Joelle laid the foundations of our new website, but she will also be offering some of our programs in the near future.

Our ministry is stepping into new levels of transparency and advocacy for a message of options and support for women facing unplanned pregnancy. We are lucky to have her wealth of knowledge as we navigate these new waters.

Alanna

Prenatal Program Development and Volunteer Doula

Alanna has been a longstanding volunteer with Options. She is one of Estrie's doulas since 2013. When she was pregnant with her second baby, she discovered the benefits of having support throughout the journey.

She has been involved in developing many English prenatal programs in our region and has now partnered with Options in our creation of a Christian Quebec prenatal program to offer to clients and women in our community.

Alanna's expert knowledge in both the midwife and hospital systems here in Sherbrooke make her a crucial member of the team. We are are grateful for her passion and connections.

Kim

Client Care Coordinator

Kim first started at Options as a volunteer who has played a crucial role in helping us build our after-abortion support program. Now, she leads our newly launched after-abortion program, offers an artistic space for pregnancy loss debrief, and welcomes our clients with a heart of empathy, love, and compassion.

Her expertise as a trained doula and servant heart ensures that our clients continue to receive the highest level of care and support.

What is a support worker?

Our mission at Options is to come alongside you in your walk with unplanned pregnancy and pregnancy loss. We meet you where you are at with empathy and confidentiality. We do this so that you know you aren’t alone and that you have support. Our support workers have all received client-care training built by our parent organization Pregnancy Care Canada. The support given at Options is not intended as a substitute for professional services, but as complementary.

Speaking with a support worker can help normalize your experience, empower you to make informed decisions, and provide access to free and available community resources. We support you by listening and helping you find the answers within yourself. We focus on supporting individuals at every level and strive to provide the necessary resources for navigating their journey, regardless of their pregnancy choices.

For more information on the importance of perinatal peer support, we invite you to check out these studies on the subject:

Maternal Mental Health Alliance, a British organization that values both professional expertise and real-life experience of mothers, also speaks eloquently on why perinatal peer support is important. Check out their article here
